THE CLIFF PATH IN HERMANUS IS UNIQUE!
The Cliff Path Management Group (CPMG) was established in 2002 and serves as the guardian and steward of the Hermanus Cliff Path, a world class natural icon and public asset. It is dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of the physical and aesthetic qualities of this iconic asset for the enjoyment of the local community and visitors.
The CPMG is responsible for the management of the path within the agreed parameters of the Fernkloof Nature Reserve management framework and in close association with the Overstrand Municipality which holds statutory responsibility.
This implies the continued maintenance of infrastructure, the preservation of the natural environment, ensuring safety and security of users and enhancing the aesthetic qualities.
The purpose of the Hermanus Cliff Path
- A scenic coastal walkway and quality recreational space for residents and tourists to experience the natural beauty and ocean views and enhance quality of life.
- To conserve the coastal biodiversity and natural environment.
- To indirectly generate economic value for Hermanus and the Overberg area to the benefit of its communities and stakeholders.

- Maintenance & infrastructure : Surfaces, bridges, walkways, benches, signage, bins, signage.
- Biodiversity and Natural Environment : preservation of natural resources and biodiversity assets, clearing invasives, rehabilitate disturbed areas, trimming, replanting.
- Security, Health, Safety: Safe access and usage, unlawfull activities and vandalism, neatness and cleanliness
- Holistic aesthetic and user qualities – “brand Cliff Path”: growing iconic world class natural and public asset status, enhance aesthetic qualities, ensure user and tourism attractiveness.
